Dear Friends, the collective wisdom from the A3 family in light of our current global crisis is such a treasure. As they come in, I’d like to share them with you so that you can sense their heart and the insight they have for those of us in the global body of Christ. Just like our series Eastern Voices, these voices are golden in our day and age. I trust you’ll take a moment to watch/read these words from my colleague, Adrian De Visser, from Sri Lanka. He has an important message to share...
I trust and pray that you are well. For most of us, things haven't really settled into a new normal yet. We have recently begun a season of self-isolation here in Japan while others have been doing this for weeks now. But wherever we are, I think everyone has had a little time to try gaining perspective. I've been getting messages from our volunteers across Asia trying to find perspective. I hope to share some because it's important for you to know and to pray. Here is an insightful one from a national director that I wanted to share with you...
So we can trust him now.As I was preparing for our upcoming Board meeting (now via teleconference), I received a letter from Doug Birdsall, my predecessor and current board member. Doug gave me permission to share his letter with you. Our hope is to encourage you. Perhaps you are discouraged, facing difficult circumstances because of coronavirus or other challenges in your life. This is a testament to God’s faithfulness to deliver.
Dear Joe: You and the needs of the mission have been on my mind in light of the uncertainty brought about by the virus and the turbulence of the markets. I have been thinking about 5 significant disruptions that have profoundly impacted the life of our mission over the years...
Dear Friends, One of the hallmarks of A3 is our belief in community. In fact, one of our three core values is “We LIVE Community!” In light of this, several of our countries are saddened that they cannot be meeting at this time due to the coronavirus impact. Despite their loss of meetings, they have expressed more concern for the people in their communities and for you than for their ability to meet. Herman Moldez, our director in the Philippines said, “Please pray for us as Metro Manila is now on lockdown… Pray for us as we seek to bring help to our communities...
March 11, 2020—This title may seem surprising to you in these days of fear and ongoing polarization in the world. – Hope Rising, really? The coronavirus impact seems to have the world gripped in fear: the markets have been in a free fall, businesses have closed, schools are shifting to online formats, and people are constantly thinking about washing their hands and whether or not they can buy facemasks. Certainly, the impacts have had a ripple effect and A3 is no exception. However...
Silk and I were encouraged to attend a recent missions conference at Rolling Hills Covenant Church entitled "Compelled by Love." During this missions celebration weekend, we explored how the most powerful driving force of life, relationships, and missions is... Christ’s love. My predecessor, and current A3 Ambassador-at-Large, Doug Birdsall did a wonderful job as the keynote speaker. Doug shared about our important calling as Christ’s ambassadors and how we are to be compelled, convinced and committed followers of Jesus. We were so inspired by his sharing that we wanted to repost his message here...
A few weeks ago, the coronavirus hit, and the world seems to be in an ever-growing cycle of media barrage. I’m sure most of you by now are taking necessary precautions and being wise in how to stay safe. You may be asking, how is the affecting ministry and what can I do about it? Some have asked, are you safe there in Asia (to me and my many of my colleagues)? The coronavirus was announced just before I was flying to a conference in SE Asia primarily focused on China. 5000 people were due to come, the majority from China. A few days prior, the conference organizers had set up parameters given the situation and knowing that this was Chinese New Year so a lot of tourists would be traveling...
Hi Friends, I want to invite you to join Silk and me as Rolling Hills Covenant Church celebrates what God is doing in the world. My predecessor, and current A3 Ambassador at Large, Doug Birdsall will be the keynote speaker this weekend (Feb 22-23) in the church services and you’ll be inspired by his sharing “Compelled by Love.” For those of you living in the South Bay of LA, or if you want to commute from anywhere in the LA basin, Silk and I would love to see you...
Have you ever had one of those seasons where nothing seems to be working? Or, you realize most everything is out of your control? Oftentimes, I feel fairly confident and optimistic about life and ministry but this past year a number of things seemed to be clearly out of my control. And, ultimately, the reality is that we really don’t have control. I was sharing some of these challenges with one of our faculty members and key ministry coaches last month, Mike Hoisington. Mike quickly shared this powerful wisdom: “I can’t. He can. I think I’ll let Him!”
Happy New Year, Friends!Looking forward, it's an exciting year as we enter this new decade. 2020 is ahead of us folks and I am super excited because a lot is on the horizon....
Hi friends! It's been an exciting year for us at A3, and I want to thank you for your support. This past year we were able to open a new country—a closed access country—and we're grateful for that. The leaders have come to me and said: "Joe, this is awesome. We have nothing like this. We are so grateful that you came." ...
Merry Christmas, Everyone on behalf of A3!We have a verse for you from the prophet Isaiah: “For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on His shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” — Isaiah 9:6 (HCSB)
We just want to thank you for all the ways you support us whether it is through your prayers, through your financial support, through your moral support. We are so grateful for you in our prayer this holiday season is that you will experience the peace of Christ. And may the message of Christ encourage you...
Hi Friends! I want to thank you for your support this year. We really appreciate you. You may remember that this past year one of our leaders came up to me and asked for help. You may know that 10 of the 16 countries in which A3 works is facing persecution and pressure, and they've come to me and said: “Joe, the groups that are helping us, we love them. But we think the equipping of leaders could be better for those of us who are facing persecution. Would you go and see if we can strengthen this part of the church across Asia.” Well, I went and met with all the different groups that help with persecution today, and they're willing to partner with us. In fact, next March, they've invited me to join them for a big gathering where we're going to talk about how we can collaborate and strengthen one another and work together to empower the persecuted Church. And it just so happens that we have a matching grant that goes towards that project. As we come to the end of 2019, we have a $167,000 matching challenge. We need to raise that amount by December 31st. Every dollar raised between now and then will be doubled...
