What makes a great board of directors?
Well, I recently attended a forum called the CEO/Board Chair Dialog with Ron McMahon, chairman of our board. At the forum we learned some “best practices” for non-profit board governance or “running a board”. As I listened and learned, it dawned on me what a fantastic board we have with A3. I thought of the ten or so boards that I have served on over the last 20 years and realized the quality of our A3 Board of Directors. Our board operates by many of the best practices suggested by the forum and they are generous, gracious, wise and willing to work to see the ministry thrive.
They are a godly group of men and women from all over the nation and world who provide great counsel, good dialog, and helpful suggestions as we move forward in ministry. They help me frame the big picture and keep us focused on our vision in a manner worthy of Christ. The Christlike character they exhibit is quite impacting plus we have fun together as well. I am so blessed to serve alongside of them in discerning how the Lord is leading us as a mission.
As for the Great News to share... Our finances were down as a mission this year as are most other ministries, and my personal support wasn’t strong enough to send our family to our upcoming Spring Conference in Japan. So, I decided as a matter of best stewardship, to delay our going to Japan until the finances were in a stronger position. Well, the great news is that our board felt it so strategic, important and valuable to have us go that they are making it possible for our family to go in a few weeks to Japan. How exciting and how generous!
I often awake with joy in my heart for the mission the Lord has called me to serve. We have one of the most strategic foci for this current age of mission, and I am blessed with an enormously wonderful team to partner with in our staff, board and global partners. May the joy of Christ fill your hearts and minds as we serve Him together until all have had a chance to hear the Good News of the Gospel of the Kingdom.
