Myanmar (MNN) – Four years after a coup ousted elected leadership in Myanmar, a loose coalition of armed ethnic groups continues to gain ground against the military junta in power. Joe Handley with A3 says tensions in the country remain high, as violence continues and civilians find themselves caught in the crossfire.
My mission history has been mostly activist; I assume most in my field of ministry would be similar. We each accepted our call of ministry as a call to action, a charge, a task. Recognizing that I needed rest, I sought to establish spiritual practices or retreats to recharge, renew, and rebuild my energy for the task at hand.

In many parts of the world, women in leadership have often been the exception rather than the norm. But there are places that defy the norm—places where women have long been influencing the direction of society, business, and even faith. The Philippines, for example, is a country that has seen women rise to some of its highest offices. With two female presidents in its history and a strong presence of women in executive leadership today, the country demonstrates a unique openness toward female leaders.
This spring, leaders, families, and friends of A3/Japan gathered once again for our annual retreat — a sacred space for reflection, renewal, and restoration. Amid the breathtaking backdrop of blooming wisteria, moss-laden trees, and sun-dappled streams, we explored the theme:
