Our A3/Japan staff recently came together for our annual retreat. It’s always wonderful to get away in the mountains, enjoy fellowship with one another and take a break from the daily work God has called us to.
This gathering was a little different in that we invited Pastor Richard Brohier to teach for us focusing on Finishing Well. Richard has a delightful way of presenting helping us process the information that we learn together. His style is more Asian in nature which is good for our mostly Western team that gathered together. It gives you a different way of perceiving things and, most importantly, we had ample time to process things at deep levels.
As you can see in the image above, Richard took us through 2 Peter 1:3-10, and supplemented his sharing with several other passages. Then, he pointedly asked us if we lived by a clock or by a compass as a catalyst for our conversations. I wonder what your answer would be...

As you can see in the slides below, very few truly finish well and Bobby Clinton suggests it’s more important to be more Christ-like at the later stages of our journey than at the beginning. I hope this will be true for me!
Applying Personal Lessons
After we processed our own learning, Richard shared the following that he has learned in his commitment to grow:
- "I will maintain my integrity." (2 Peter 3:14)
- "I will forgive those who hurt me." (Hebrews 12:15)
- "I will relax and trust God." (Hebrews 4:11)
- "I will be an encourager." (Romans 4:19)
- "I will be a peacemaker." (Ephesians 4:3)
- "I will never stop growing." (2 Peter 1:5-8)
I pray that I can aspire to these markers in life as well. What about you?
