A3 is a multi-national ministry, currently active in 16 countries. What you might not be aware of is that the leaders in A3 are active among those 16 countries as well.
It’s part of our ethos of breaking down barriers to build up the unity of the Church across Asia.
Bob & Beth Fuhriman served as missionaries with Cru in Japan starting in 1968. In 1981, they switched to A3 (then, LIFE Ministries). I met them in 1987 as an A3 short-termer living in Tokyo. I remember carefully watching several of these long-term missionaries to see if I could possibly become one, as well as if these were the people whose community I wanted to join.
As I was watching the Olympics that happened in Tokyo where I live and minister, I was struck by each and almost every athlete who performs at these Olympic games—different team sports or individual sports or new and old or many different things. But as you know, the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics were supposed to happen last year in 2020. and then people discussed their opinions about a possible postponement.

In our hearts, we were confident that God was calling us to serve him in Japan. But we couldn’t do it without a significant team of supporters behind us with faithful prayers and financial gifts. It was hard to imagine how he would do it. It was 2016. Josh and I hoped to be in Japan within a year, but God had other plans.
