A3’s network of churches is mobilizing to meet immediate needs.
Nepal (MNN) — Shoes scattered everywhere. Cooking utensils stuck in the mud. The human toll of last week’s catastrophic flooding in Nepal continues to climb. Now, over 950 people are confirmed dead and more than 4,400 are still missing.
Chittry with A3 recently returned from the disaster zone. He says, “People are really shocked and standing on the muddy road area, and… they’re worried so much. Most of the people…were worried losing most of their family members. Now slowly, slowly relief work is going there, and people are responding. Also the army and police [and] social workers are actually heavily engaged to rescue people, distributing the relief work in the village.”

“Many buildings were damaged and all under the mud,” says Chittry. “They lost everything. Not only their loved ones, but they lost all their properties and things they had. Only they came out. Some of them came out surviving empty handed. But many of their family members, where they are, they don’t know.”
Christians are among those grieving. Chittry says churches have been damaged or swept away, and Christian families have been lost in the flooding.
A3’s network of alumni and local churches is mobilizing to meet immediate needs, while preparing for the long road ahead.
“Our presence there – even giving a bottle of water and clothes or a tent – that shows that Christians love them, care for them, and God is a loving God,” says Chittry.
“That’s how they will understand. Not just speaking by mouth, but putting ourselves in action – so if the A3 family can just be in the field and show the love of God and serve them and…take care of them in this difficult situation.”
“God is not punishing people, but God is actually teaching us to turn toward Him and come back to Him,” says Chitry. “Whatever they have lost, [is] lost. But God [has] spared their life to come to Him and know Him, and then experience His love in this situation.”

Pray for grieving families to sense the Lord’s comfort, for sufficient relief supplies, and for wisdom for Christians serving survivors. Ask God to use their tangible compassion to point hurting people toward Christ.
