A Testimonial Reflection

When I saw Joe Handley’s recent post about the global impact A3 is poised to have, something stirred in me.
Because what I see happening through A3 is not theoretical. It is not branding. It is not institutional expansion. It is something we’ve been living on the ground for years.
And in many ways, A3 helped give language, courage, and clarity to what God was already nudging us toward.
What follows is my story (and our story) of how we stopped trying to “build something big” and started asking God to help us “catalyze something multiplying”.
We Started With Big Dreams
When we launched Radiance in 2005, I had the same dream many leaders have.
- Plant a strong church.
- Grow it large.
- Make an impact locally.
After reading The Purpose Driven Church, I even imagined a megachurch in our city of Whitefield.
But the Lord interrupted that plan.
Whitefield was becoming the back office of the world. Young professionals were flowing in from everywhere. Few would stay long-term. Building a large, permanent congregation didn’t make sense.
More importantly, it didn’t feel like what God wanted. Slowly, the Spirit shifted our imagination.
We realized:
“We didn’t need to build a big church.
We needed to release many small fires.”
From Building a Movement → Catalyzing Movements
At first, I thought Radiance itself should become a global movement.
But through prayer, learning, and conversations (including the influence of A3), we discovered something better.
We weren’t meant to be the movement. We were meant to catalyze movements.
Not to control, centralize, or brand. But rather to collaborate, empower, and send.
A3’s emphasizes:
- Christlike leaders
- multiplication
- indigenous ownership
- kingdom over organization
This focus deeply reinforced what we were sensing. It gave us confidence to choose the harder but more biblical path:
- Small is indeed big.
- Homes can change the world.
- Ordinary people are powerful in God’s hands.
What We See Now
Today, many who once walked with us are scattered across cities and nations.
Not dependent on us. Not carrying our label. But faithfully living as disciple-makers wherever God has placed them.
- In offices.
- In cafés.
- In apartments.
- In the marketplace.
They are being the Church.
Honestly, this is the most beautiful outcome we could have hoped for. Because in the end:
It’s not about our work being established, but it’s about His Kingdom being established!
We are not the fire. We are tiny sparks. Little lights. Catalysts.
As Paul says, “shine like stars… holding out the word of life.”
How A3 Strengthened Our Conviction
If I’m honest, there were seasons when people questioned this approach, saying things like:
“House movements won’t scale.”
“You’re shooting yourself in the foot.”
“You need something bigger.”
But A3 kept reinforcing a different theology of leadership:
- formation over fame
- multiplication over accumulation
- sending over gathering
- kingdom over organization
Seeing how A3 develops Christlike leaders globally — leaders who stay small, humble, and catalytic — gave us courage to stay the course.
It reminded us:
- Movements spread faster than institutions.
- Disciples multiply faster than programs.
- And obedience beats strategy every time.
Our Calling Today
Our mission has become simple:
Draw.
Influence.
Empower.
As 2 Timothy 2:2 says, we pass life to faithful people who will pass it on again.
We don’t measure success by attendance. Instead, we measure it by:
- Who was sent
- Who started something new
- Who is living missionally where they already are
Because the church isn’t a place people go, but rather a people scattered everywhere.
Our Prayer
So today, our prayer isn’t for buildings.
It’s not even for funding.
It’s for workers!
For ordinary believers who will say yes.
For collaborators and partners.
For movements that spread rapidly across neighborhoods and nations.
And for the courage to remain small enough for God to use.

Thank you for modeling what catalytic leadership looks like. Thank you for choosing character over celebrity. Thank you for helping leaders like us trust that God does His best work through ordinary people.
If even a fraction of what we’re seeing in Bangalore, India multiplies globally through A3’s networks, the impact will be immeasurable.
May we all continue to glow forth —
not as the fire,
but as little lights —
until the knowledge of the Lord covers the earth.

DR. DANNY SATHYADASS is a team-builder and church-planting pioneer. He launched Citylight, a movement focused on training and instilling the importance of discipleship within the context of Christ-centered teams. Initially, Citylight was a missional arm of Radiance, a home church network that Danny started with his wife and others in 2005. Danny earned a DMin degree in Pastoral Ministry (South Asia Institute of Advanced Christian Studies) and an MTh in Pastoral Studies/Counselling (University of Wales/Taftee).
